Détails du Lot
Jerry Uelsmann (American, 1934-2022) Untitled (Boat and Moon), 1982 Gelatin silver print 13-3/8 x 10-1/2 inches (33.9 x 26.7 cm) (image/sheet) Initialed and dated in pencil mount recto. Signed, dated, and with the photographer's copyright studio stamp, mount verso. PROVENANCE: The artist; Abe Frajndlich, acquired from the above, circa 1982. I first met Jerry Uelsmann in Gainesville, Florida in 1975, dropping in for a visit with another photographer colleague, Jill Enfield, as we were driving south. He had also been a student of Minor White's in Rochester in the 1950's and that extended fraternity opened lots of doors once you were in the club. This particular image came to me after a conversation with Jerry about Minor's passing in 1976, where some of the last words he said were about seeing a boat waiting to take him on his journey. In a lecture that Uelsmann gave years later at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, he referenced this image and its connection to Minor White and his spiritual journey. The artist; Abe Frajndlich, acquired from the above.
Neutral toned print on semi-gloss paper trimmed to edges and mounted on archival board with taped overmat. A beautiful print, in excellent condition. Sold matted and unframed. 20 x 16 inch mount.
