A Russian Pan-Slavic-Style Gem-Set Silver Presentation Kovsh with Original Presentation Folio Fabergé, Moscow, circa 1913, with scratched inventory number 21261 8-1/4 x 9-3/8 x 16-3/4 inches (21.0 x 23.8 x 42.5 cm) 1648 grams PROVENANCE: Sotheby's London, July 5, 1984, lot 481; Sotheby's Geneva, November 13, 1984, lot 661; With Wartski, London; John Atzbach Antiques, Bellevue, Washington, acquired from the above; Acquired from the above by the present owner. Thomas Firth and Sons was founded in 1837 and registered as a company in Britain in 1881 as merchants and manufacturers of files, saws, and edge tools. The firm opened in Russia in 1888 and remained a force in the Anglo-Russian business community until their closure in 1913. The offered lot was commissioned by the employees of the firm as a gift for the departing Director of the Russian office and is offered with its original presentation folio bearing the names of all the members of the firm in Russia and its other offices within the empire in Warsaw, Vilnius, Riga and Samara.
