Détails du Lot
A Pair of Sancai-Glazed Pottery Figures of Lokapalas, Tang dynasty 39 x 16 x 5 inches (99.1 x 40.6 x 12.7 cm) (each, work) The pair of sancai-glazed pottery figures of Lokapalas from the Tang Dynasty (618-907) exemplifies the era's mastery of ceramic art and its spiritual significance. These guardian figures, each poised on a recumbent bull, embody the protective spirit and strength associated with Lokapalas, who were believed to guard the directions and protect the Buddhist faith. With one arm raised, they command attention and reverence, their dynamic postures conveying both power and grace. The exquisite glaze, with its vibrant splashes of green and amber, enhances their striking appearance, highlighting the intricate details of their garments and facial expressions. This harmonious blend of form and color not only reflects the artistic innovation of the Tang Dynasty but also serves as a testament to the cultural exchange and religious devotion of the period. Property from the Collection of Weider Health and Fitness HID12401132022 © 2024 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
Each of impressive size and with vibrant amber, green, and cream colored glaze, and each with lucite case. Both with professional restoration to the tip of the crown. Scattered areas of glaze loss and minor chips, consistent with age and handling. Otherwise, no other visible condition issues observed. Accompanied by Oxford TL test report. The result of Oxford thermoluminescence test no. C124f57 is consistent with the dating of this lot.
