Détails du Lot
Katsushika Hokusai (Japanese, 1760-1849) Flowering Cherry Trees Along the Yoshino River, 1822 Surimono woodblock print with gaufrage 8 x 10-3/8 inches (20.3 x 26.4 cm) (sheet, chūban) Effaced signature: Fusenkyo Iitsu hitsu PROVENANCE: Collection of Huguette Berès, Paris; Sotheby's, Paris, November 23, 2003, lot 86. Collection of Huguette Berès, Paris; Sotheby's, Paris, November 23, 2003, lot 86.
Print presents well. The condition of the work is consistent with its age. Mild toning to the sheet, with some heavier areas verso likely due to inherent to the inks chosen; some minor fading primarily evident in red inked areas. Marked handling dents and creasing throughout sheet. Silver mica is sparse with some losses; some additional wear/losses to ink along edges likely due to handling. A few mild marks/accretions along recto edges, with moderate/marked accretions appearing verso. Signature is partially effaced. Two vestiges of hinges along upper edge verso. Huguette Berès collector's seal, lower left corner verso. Unframed. No tears or losses observed.
