Attributed to Philip A. Harrington (American, 1920-2009) Two Chinese Children, 1957 Gelatin silver print 13-1/4 x 10-3/8 inches (33.7 x 26.4 cm) (image/sheet) In 1957, Harrington entered China against a U.S. State Department ban on newsman entering the communist nation. The Secretary of State, John Foster Dulles, threatened to jail Harrington, or at least revoke his passport. Harrington responded by sending a telegraph that the roads were washed out and he could not return. The articles produced from these images won Harrington and Edmund Stevens the George Polk award for magazine reporting. Overall fair condition. A very few soft creases and indentations visible under raking light. A few scattered areas of shiny yellowed accretion. Sheet is dry mounted to Universal illustration board. Not framed.
