McDonald (British, 1822-1885) Ordnance Survey of Jerusalem, Under the Direction of Colonel Sir Henry James, 1865 Albumen prints Folio, 20-3/4 x 14-3/4 inches (52.7 x 37.5 cm) comprising 75 mounted albumen prints including two folding panoramas. Charles W. Wilson, London: Her Majesty's Treasury. Property from the Estate of Lewis Lehr Wilson conducted his survey on behalf of the Water Relief Committee, aiming to produce a detailed account of Jerusalem's wells, conduits, cisterns, and related water systems. He later became a prominent figure in the Palestine Exploration Fund, participating in several additional surveys of the region. In overall good condition. Scattered foxing. Water staining to the bottom 3 inches of the pages affecting some of the images. Four pages with a small tear in the lower left. Loss to the upper left of page 33 not affecting the image. Tears to pages 28 and 29 slightly affecting the one of the images.
