Drypoint. Signed and titled “Selbst mit Hut” (Self-portrait with hat) by a hand other than that of the artist. From an edition of 50 copies. On laid paper (with the watermark "BSB"). 32 x 24.7 cm. Sheet: 52,8 x 42 cm. Published by I.B. Neumann, Berlin. [MH]. - This self-portrait is considered the most important work in Beckmann's graphic oeuvre. - Its significance is emphasized by the four different versions. - The recurring motifs of the cat and the lamp reference Beckmann's inscrutable nature. - Another copy of this etching is in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art, New York. With a professionally restored tear (approx. 3 cm) in the upper right corner, and with a small backed tear (approx. 5 mm). Lower right corner with a small surface blemish. Another tiny tear (approx. 5 mm) in the left edge.
