- Atmospheric and detailed landscape with harmonious perspective. - The Bavarian Alpine foothills around Munich inspired him to create his atmospheric depictions of forests and landscapes. - From 1805, Cantius traveled with his older brother Johann Georg von Dillis (1759-1841) through Switzerland, southern Tyrol, and as far as Rome. - In 1833, he became an honorary member of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. - The work was once in the private collection of the Wittelsbach family.
Galerie Heinemann, Munich (with the gallery label on the reverse). Dr. Werner Freiherr von Grünau (acquired from the above in 1920). Wittelsbach private collection (probably inherited from the above). Private collection, Germany (probably acquired from the above before 1995). In family ownership ever since
In good condition, with beautiful colors. The outer edges are slightly rubbed in places and show minimal loss of color. There are small retouches in places, mainly on the outer edges. The condition report was compiled in daylight with a UV light source and to the best of our knowledge and belief.
