Détails du Lot
Dorothea Lange (American, 1895-1965) Destitute Pea Pickers, 1936 Gelatin silver print, printed later 10-1/2 x 13-1/2 inches (26.7 x 34.3 cm) (image) 11 x 14 inches (sheet) Library of Congress "Photoduplication Service" stamp, verso. LITERATURE: M. Durden, Dorothea Lange, Phaidon, London, 2006, p. 11. "I did not ask her name or history. She told me her age, that she was 32. She said that they had been living on frozen vegetables from the surrounding fields and birds that the children killed. She just sold the tires from her car to buy food. There she sat in that lean-to tent with her children huddled around her, and seemed to know that my pictures might help her, and so she helped me. There was a sort of equality about it. The pea crop at Nipomo had frozen and there was no work for anybody. But I did not approach the tents and shelters of other stranded pea-pickers. It was not necessary; I knew I had recorded the essence of my assignment." (Dorothea Lange) HID12401132022 © 2024 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved www.HA.com/TexasAuctioneerLicenseNotice
Overall excellent condition. Scratches and areas of retouching are in the negative and not condition issues. Sheet is taped along upper verso edge with hinge tape to a window mat, framed under acrylic measuring 20 x 22 inches.
