Nelson Stevens, a pivotal figure in the Black Arts Movement, developed a powerful and distinctive style in his early 1970s works that combined bold color, rhythmic forms, and expressive symbolism. His art from this period is celebrated for capturing the vibrancy, strength, and resilience of Black identity and culture, emphasizing a visual language that merges abstraction with figuration.
