Détails du Lot
LA II X Keith Haring Keith Haring Gong Acrylic and ink on gong 11-3/4 inches (29.8 cm) diameter PROVENANCE: Acquired directly from the artist by present owner. This work is included in Art For Good, a dedicated session within the auction where a portion of the proceeds from each sale supports a worthy charity. Ten percent (10%) of the net proceeds from this piece will go to Cure Addiction Now. New York graffiti artist LA II (a.k.a. Angel Ortiz) is renowned for his collaborations with Keith Haring. Our "Art for Good" collection features never-before-seen works from LA II's personal collection. Ortiz's career began when Haring discovered his "Little Angel" tag in New York and sought to collaborate with the young artist. Throughout the 1980s, Ortiz and Haring created murals, sculptures, and paintings, blending their distinct styles. Ortiz's unique fusion of contemporary symbols and Asian calligraphy has been showcased in galleries and museums across the U.S. This collection is the largest online offering of LA II's work, featuring a wide range of mediums from street signs to sculptures. Keith Haring became a key figure in the 1980s East Village art scene alongside artists like Jean-Michel Basquiat, Jenny Holzer, and LA II. Haring bridged the gap between street art and the fine art world, creating his signature bold, cartoonish figures in subway stations and later in studios. His work addressed social issues such as exploitation, drug abuse, and the AIDS epidemic, which affected him personally after his diagnosis in 1987. Today, Haring’s art commands millions at auction and has been exhibited globally, including at the Brooklyn Museum, SFMOMA, and Vienna’s Albertina Museum. His collaboration with LA II greatly influenced both artists' work. HID12401132022 © 2024 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
