A Japanese Carved Wood Netsuke of Skeleton of Otsuyu with Lantern, Edo period (19th century) Marks: signed Tomokazu 2-1/8 x 0-7/8 x 0-3/4 inches (5.4 x 2.2 x 1.9 cm) Carved as Otsuyu's skeleton from the ghost story of the Botan Doro (peony lantern), being one of Japan's Big Three Ghost Stories. The skeleton shown with large lotus leaf on her head, carrying a large mask on her back, its horn protruding through the leaf. Incised Tomokazu to the back of the lantern in her right hand.
