A Pair of Chinese Carved Reticulated Giltwood Panels on Stand, Guangxu mark and of the period Marks: "光緒十八年起工到廿二年七月止 聽松堂行悟備置""光緒十八年十月起廿二年七月滿工 名根修 字行悟 號一葦置" 32-1/4 x 16-7/8 x 10-3/8 inches (81.9 x 42.9 x 26.4 cm) (each, overall) A pair of exquisitely carved gilt wood panels on stands, each display various Buddhist and Taoist immortals. One panel centering a pagoda with Mitreya sitting inside, surrounded by the Four Great Bodhisattvas: Manjusri, Samantabhadra, Avalokiteshvara and Ksitigarbha. The scene divided into sections by branches of pine trees and architectural elements. The other panel decorated en suite, featuring Bodhisattvas riding on a phoenix and a dragon to the top right section. Each panel with reticulated carved floral and foliage borders. The stands each featuring a horizontal figural panel, above a lotus and foliage decorative band to the bottom, the sides elaborately decorated with grapes and vines, all supported by a pair of drum-form pedestals, each carved with figural scenes. Each panel presents beautifully, with gilding preserved well. Some minor gilt rubbing to the surface, consistent with age and handling. Some minor areas of professional repairs to some thin carvings, along with slight areas of chips to the edges.
