Tim Hildebrandt (American, 1939-2006) Nightpool paperback cover, circa 1985 Oil on board 28-5/8 x 19 inches (72.7 x 48.3 cm) Signed lower right: TIM HILDEBRANDT The present work is published as the cover of Nightpool by Shirley Rousseau Murphy (Harper, 1987) though the artist has said it was originally created for Anne McCaffrey's Dragonriders of Pern series. A favorite piece of the artist, he detailed the creation of this dynamic image in The Fantasy Art Techniques of Tim Hildebrandt by Jack E. Norton (Sterling, 2000).
