Synthetic Men of Mars is the ninth offering in Edgar Rice Burroughs's Martian series, often referred to as the "John Carter of Mars" books. Beginning in 1913 with A Princess of Mars, these stories are considered some of the most influential early science fiction works, and the John Carter characters are among the most significant to be birthed in pulp magazines such as Argosy, and its predecessor All-Story. This powerfully exciting cover by Rudolph Belarski shows a climactic moment in Synthetic Men of Mars, with Vor Daj and Janai riding the giant bird known as a malagor to the rescue of Dejah Thoris, wife of John Carter.
