EXHIBITED: M.H. de Young Memorial Museum, San Francisco, California, "19th Annual Exhibition--Society of Western Artist," January 14--February 15, 1959. Italian-American painter, Matteo Sandonà, was best known for his vibrant portraits and impressionistic style. Born in Italy, he immigrated to the United States, where he gained recognition for his depictions of high society figures, Native Americans, and landscapes. Sandonà’s art blended European academic techniques with a looser, expressive brushwork reminiscent of Impressionism.
