• Using contrasting colors and abstract-Cubist forms, Rohlfs demonstrates his mastery of Expressionist landscape painting.
• A play of contrasts: Rohlfs combines figuration and abstraction, cool and warm tones, as well as lines and planes, into a particularly captivating composition.
• Comparable works are now part of major museum collections, including the Nationalgalerie, Berlin; the Städel Museum, Frankfurt am Main; the Kunsthalle Mannheim; and the Albertina in Vienna.
Accompanied by a written confirmation of authenticity issued by Prof. Dr. Paul Vogt, Christian Rohlfs Estate, Essen, dated July 29, 1996 (copy).
Galerie Heseler, Munich. Private collection, Southern Germany (acquired from the above in the 1990s)
A fascinating composition with a beautiful overall appearance. The colors are slightly faded overall. Mainly in the margins, there are partial small creases and small folds. The edges of the sheet have isolated tears, professionally closed, predominantly along the left edge (0.5 to approx. 4 cm). The paper in the lower left corner of the sheet has several small tears due to a previous mounting.
