Détails du Lot
Acrylic on collaged plastic foil, on cardboard. (Five parts).
From an edition of five copies, each of which is of unique character owing to the manual color application. One sheet signed, dated and numbered (copy) on a label on the reverse of the backing board. Each with the edition label on the back, inscribed with, among other things, the sheet order from “A” to “E”. Each: 46 x 36 cm.
Not unframed for cataloging. [KA].

• Series with a unique character.
• The playful combination of colors and haptic brushstrokes, lends Knoebel's geometric scheme a fascinating vibrancy.
• Knoebel has been working on the series of works “Anima Mundi” or “World Soul” since 2010, which refers to the term for the mediation between the earthly and the heavenly world in ancient philosophy.
• A large-scale exhibition of Knoebel's impressive work is currently on display at the Kunstraum am Limes in Hillscheid until March 19, 2025.
Galerie Fahnemann, Berlin. Private collection South Germany (acquired from the above in 2019)
The present five-part work from the series “Anima Mundi”, a cycle Imi Knoebel has been working on since 2010, impresses with its radiant, harmonious and contrasting colors. In a series characterized by various color combinations, Knoebel leaves the brushstrokes visible, thus revealing the surface's formal structure. The title of the work, “Anima Mundi” or “World Soul”, refers to one of the central philosophical concepts of Western metaphysics: “One may see in it the play and chance of a mere title, from which little meaning can be derived and which remains on the surface. Therefore, it is better to observe these images, which, if successful, do indeed lead into realms of non-representational thought; thought for which the images, strictly speaking, are only the external trigger.” (quoted from Martin Schulz, in: Imi Knoebel. Werke 1966-2014, ed. by Kunstmuseum Wolfsburg, Bielefeld 2014, p. 201).
In good condition.
