Détails du Lot
Oil on cardboard. Signed and dated in the lower left. Once more signed and dated as well as titled and inscribed with a direction arrow on the reverse. 74 x 52 cm.
[AR].
- Bernard Schultze is considered one of the most famous representatives of informal painting in Germany. - In 1959, 1964, and 1977, he participated in documenta II, III, and 6 in Kassel. - His works are in important museum collections, such as the Tate Gallery in London, the Folkwang Museum in Essen, and the Museum Ludwig in Cologne.
The work is mentioned on the artist's hand-written list as number 55/55.
LITERATURE: Stephan Diederich, Barbara Herrmann, Bernard Schultze. Verzeichnis der Werke, vol. 2: 1939-1989, Cologne/Munich 2015, no. 55/9, p. 265 (not illustrated).
Private collection, Rhineland Palatinate. Ever since family-owned
In good condition. The upper right and lower left corners of the image are slightly unstable, the upper right corner appears to have been stabilized previously with a piece of canvas (?), possibly by the artist himself. Small retouching along the edges of the image. There is a small hole in the center of the left and right edges, but these are inherent to the work. Craquelure in places due to the material. The condition report was compiled in daylight with a UV light source and to the best of our knowledge and belief.
