Détails du Lot
Pochoir. Signed. On wove paper. 37.4 x 28.9 cm. Sheet: 51,7 x 39,8 cm.
The pochoir is based on a gouache by Albert Gleizes and was created by Robert Pouyaud under the artist's supervision in Paris between 1927 and 1929. The date “1924” mentioned above refers to when the gouache that served as a template was made. According to Anne Varichon's catalogue raisonné, the exact print run is unknown. [AR] More works from the Max Niedermayer Collection, Limes-Verlag, Wiesbaden, are coming up for auction through the year.
LITERATURE: Anne Varichon, Albert Gleizes. Catalogue raisonné, volume I, Paris 1998, cat. no. 1064 (illustrated in color). Jacqueline Loyer, L'Œuvre gravé de Albert Gleizes, catalogue raisonné no. IV - Pochoirs, no. III, p. 22 (illustrated), in: Nouvelles de l'estampe, revue du comité national de la gravure française, No. 26, March-April 1976, pp. 11-22.
Dr. Max Niedermayer Collection, Wiesbaden. Dr. Max Niedermayer Estate, Wiesbaden. Private collection, Rhineland-Palatinate (acquired from the above in 1979). In family ownership since
Good overall impression. Overall browned and sunned. Small, light areas in the white margins, probably over-painted or retouched. A small loss (approx. 3.0 x 0.5 cm) in the lower left edge of the sheet. Isolated brown stains. With a rebacked and retouched tear in the paper (approx. 2.5 x 2 cm) in the top center of the image, which blends harmoniously into the overall appearance. Slight abrasions in the image, visible in raking light. Small pressure marks in the paper, among other places, in the top left of the image. Small remnants of an old mounting on the right edge of the sheet.
