Jim Love (American, 1927-2005) The Football Fan, 1958 Steel and cast iron 20 inches (50.8 cm) high PROVENANCE: Andre Emmerich Gallery, Houston, 1958; Lee Malone (A former director of The Museum of Fine Arts Houston), acquired from the above; Private collection, Saint Petersburg, Florida, by descent from the above. Renowned Texas sculptor Jim Love was born in 1927 in Amarillo, Texas, and first gained national recognition in 1961 when his work was included in The Museum of Modern Art's groundbreaking exhibition The Art of Assemblage. His assemblages have been included in many exhibitions, publications, and large-scale public instillations. The Football Fan, is a classic example of Love's signature assemblage style.
