• Dramatic, erotic, provocative: a visual interpretation of the duality and inner conflict of Tannhäuser, the protagonist of Richard Wagner’s opera of the same name.
• A vibrant composition with fractured color fields and energetic, broad brushstrokes.
• Alongside his female portraits and plein-air paintings, the artist also created erotic-mythological scenes, literary works, and fairy-tale motifs.

Good overall condition. The canvas has been lined. Fine craquelure in places with small areas of paint loss or tiny holes in the canvas, such as at the top center. Overall, there are both major and minor retouching. The edges of the painting are secured all around with paper tape. The condition report was compiled in daylight with the aid of a UV light source, and to the best of our knowledge and belief.
